Thursday’s earnings calls offered a useful snapshot of two very different parts of the economy. At one end, the AI-driven technology sector was still accelerating: NVIDIA shares jumped nearly 9% after the company forecast 70% revenue growth next year, while Salesforce rose more than 20% after raising its outlook and reporting stronger AI adoption.
At the other end, the dollar-store sector was benefiting from a much less hyped trend, with Dollar General and Dollar Tree reporting stronger sales while consumers continued looking for cheaper essentials.
